The Most Expensive Harley-Davidson Bikes In History

The Harley-Davidson Motor Company has been producing the best all-purpose motorcycles in the United States and all over the planet for 105 years. Their designs and engines have gone a long way from early Americana to the modern machines marveled today. Purchasing and maintaining a Harley-Davidson bike does not only require dedication and passion for motorcycling, but a really big bank account.

As of 2007, a new Harley-Davidson bike would cost you around $7,000 to $22,000. This is the price for the bike alone, and does not include security systems, anti-lock braking systems (ABS), additional accessories, insurance, and a lot of other things you will need to buy. You must also take into account the cost of spare parts, repairs, fuel, engine oils, coolants, and more. Don’t forget your Harley-Davidson leather jacket, boots, helmet, and gloves, which will require a little over $1,000.

Embracing the Harley-Davidson biker lifestyle really is a commitment and a huge investment. Special edition and customized Harley-Davidson motorcycles will cost you anywhere from $25,000 to $30,000. These bikes are the most beautiful and perhaps the best ones around. Don’t be too shocked with the price, as these may seem very little compared to the most expensive Harley-Davidson bikes in history.

Jay Leno, Late-Night Show host and avid Harley-Davidson enthusiast came up with a brilliant idea after the terrors of September 11, 2001. He had his Harley-Davidson placed on his stage, and asked all his talk show guests to sign it. Jay later on auctioned that motorcycle for more than $350,000. He donated this amount to the families of the victims of the tragedy.

A few years later, in 2004, after the dreadful tsunami in Asia, Jay Leno repeated his Harley-Davidson bike signing with his celebrity guests. He was able to auction off this bike for an astounding $800,100, making it the most expensive Harley-Davidson bike in history.

In June 2006, British football superstar David Beckham auctioned his Harley-Davidson VRSCA V-Rod during his World Cup Party. Fellow football player Rio Ferdinand bought the said motorcycle for over $50,000, which was said to be four times its retail value. The proceeds from the auction of the motorcycle were donated to David Beckham’s charity foundation.

In the early part of 2007, a motorcycle convention and auction was held in Doha, Qatar, and Harley-Davidson was among the sponsors of the event. The second most expensive Harley-Davidson bike was auctioned here, and was purchased by the Prince of Qatar for $800,000. The Prince was proud of his VRSCDX Night Rod Special, making him one of the newest and probably the richest Harley-Davidson enthusiasts around. The proceeds of the said auction were donated to charity.

So if you’re considering buying yourself a Harley-Davidson, better think real hard. You can shell out a lot of cash in the beginning, but you can probably get it back tenfold if you decide to auction it off. Either way, having the bike of your dreams, or selling it for a big price, will make you a winner.
