Harley-Davidson In The Guinness Book Of World Records
Harley-Davidson has been reputed to have made a name in the history books, as being one of the longest-running and most successful motorcycle companies in the world. The company doesn’t stop at producing quality machines and merchandise for bikers and the road, Harley-Davidson also devotes its time and efforts to worthy causes.
The Harley-Davidson Foundation was established in 1983, and since then has gathered millions of dollars in funds for communities in Kansas, Milwaukee, and Pennsylvania. Volunteers, employees, and Harley-Davidson bikers lend their motorcycles and their efforts to provide educational aid, scholarships, environmental protection, workshops, arts and culture promotion, and community revitalization. Establishing the Foundation may be considered as one of the best decisions a motorcycle company can make.
As if the Harley-Davidson brand is not famous enough for their quality and powerful bad bikes and their unwavering efforts to the community, their motorcycles have even been mentioned in the record books, the Guinness Book of World Records to be exact. Let’s take a look at some notable feats accomplished by daring men and women on the hog.
Speaking of riding their hogs for a cause, on December 8, 2002, there were 2,118 Harley-Davidson motorcycles on parade for the 17th Annual Children’s Hospital Toy Run in Denver, Colorado. This event was said to be the largest parade of Harley-Davidson motorcycles in history. The Toy Run is one of many projects of the Harley-Davidson Company as a way of sharing their good fortune to the less fortunate.
On March 2, 2003, Harley-Davidson was again placed in the record book as over 325 biker couples gathered together in Orlando, Florida to renew their wedding vows, Harley-Davidson style. According to Guinness Book, this was said to be the largest gathering of biker couples for the renewal of their wedding vows. Couples with their families in tow, from all over the country and even from Europe, all joined in the festivities. Each couple received genuine Harley-Davidson gifts, such as wedding cake, flowers, music records, patches, and more. The oldest couple to join the renewal event has been married and biking together for 52 years.
Even stunts on the Harley-Davidson can’t be omitted from the world record books. Bubba Blackwell, a famous stunt rider from Alabama and Harley-Davidson enthusiast has set two world records on his bike from the past eight years. In December 1999, this daredevil set his own record by jumping over 15 tour buses in Las Vegas, Nevada. He rode his trusty Harley-Davidson XR750 for over 157 feet. Two years later, he made another record by jumping over 14 semi-trucks in Foley, Alabama. His jumps were covered and broadcasted nationwide.
As you can see, the Harley-Davidson Company is not only proud of its well-admired reputation, but also for the world records that were created with the famous name. To this date, more and more stunt riders are attempting record-breaking feats on their motorcycles. Let’s just wait and see how many more Harley-Davidson notches on the will be added on the Guinness Book of World Records.
